About Neanderthals:
Neanderthals (or Neandertals) are our closest extinct human relatives. There is some debate as to whether they were a distinct species of the Homo genus (Homo neanderthalensis) or a subspecies of Homo sapiens.
More rarely known as Neandertals, were archaic humans that became extinct about 40,000 years ago. They seem to have appeared in Europe and later expanded into Southwest, Central and Northern Asia.
Scientific name: Homo neanderthalensis
Height: Male: 5.4 – 5.5 ft. (Adult), Female: 5 – 5.1 ft. (Adult)
Mass: Male: 170 lbs (Adult), Female: 150 lbs (Adult)
Did you know: Many scientists had long doubted whether Neanderthals were capable of producing symbolic art.
