About Enteroctopus:
NAME: Enteroctopus, or “giant octopus”
Pronounced:  EN-ter-OCTO-puss
Named By: Gould in 1852
DIET: Carnivore (meat eater); crustaceans, molluscs, fish, and sometimes other octopuses
SIZE: Length: up to 11 feet (3.3 m)
Weight: up to 160 lbs (71 kg)
WHEN IT LIVED: It is difficult to determine the exact origins of this species, but the oldest octopus fossil found so far is 165 million years old. These creatures still exist in the present day.
WHERE IT LIVED: Enteroctopus lives in both deep, and shallow oceans, and are found all over the world.
FOSSILS: Because Enteroctopus is primarily composed of soft tissue and has no bones, fossils of these creatures are extremely rare, only a few have ever been found.
INTERESTING FACTS: Giant Octopuses are considered the most intelligent invertebrates, having an equivalent intelligence as that of a domestic housecat. It can solve puzzles, use tools, and can even recognize specific people with whom it comes into regular contact with.
